Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  Doesn’t Horry County already have a Meals on Wheels program?

A:  The best answer is yes and no. Meals on Wheels of Horry County is a Christ-led outreach serving the home bound, elderly, handicapped and terminally ill with hot meals made fresh daily.  There are two other home-delivered meal programs in Horry County:  1) The Horry County Council on Aging covers most of the county and delivers frozen meals once a week and 2) Mobile Meals (there are 3 separate operations which fall under one Board of Directors) who serve the beach front from Little River to Surfside.  They do not deliver across the waterway except in certain locations.

Q: Where is the food prepared?

A: Our kitchen is located in Conway at 2250 US-501 S, Conway, SC at the corner of Singleton Ridge Road and 501 in the Food Lion plaza.  Our meals are planned by our Executive Chef weekly cooked fresh by our Head Chefs and kitchen teams daily.  Each “Grandparent” we serve is delivered 5 freshly made meals weekly on their assigned day of the week.

Q:  What types of Meals will you be delivering?

A:   Meals will consist of a meat, a starch, and a vegetable/fruit.   Currently we are unable to follow strict dietary restrictions and special diets, however all meals are prepared with no added salt or added sugar.

Q:  How often do you deliver?

A:  Clients, our “grandparents” are assigned a specific delivery day of the week.  Meals are currently delivered Mondays – Thursdays 10:30 – 1:00pm.  Clients receive all 5 meals for the week during this delivery stop.

Q:  What are the eligibility requirements for receiving meals?

A: The requirements are as follows:

  • Homebound (unable to drive other than to the doctor, church, etc.)
  • Unable to prepare meals due to physical/emotional limitations
  • Live alone, or be alone during the day
  • Have no one to prepare meals for you during the day
  • No income or age restrictions apply
  • Cannot be receiving home-delivered meals from another agency

Q:  Why have you decided to stay privately funded?

A:    We stay privately funded because this is God’s ministry and as such, He provides the funding we need through private donations, business contributions, other non-profit fundraisers where donations are earmarked for Meals on Wheels.  God has provided the funds for us to operate for over 12 years!
