Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  Doesn’t Horry County already have a Meals on Wheels program?

A:  The best answer is yes and no. Meals on Wheels of Horry County is a Christ-led outreach serving the home bound, elderly, handicapped and terminally ill with hot meals made fresh daily.  There are two other home-delivered meal programs in Horry County:  1) The Horry County Council on Aging covers most of the county and delivers frozen meals once a week and 2) Mobile Meals (there are 3 separate operations which fall under one Board of Directors) who serve the beach front from Little River to Surfside.  They do not deliver across the waterway except in certain locations.

Q: Where is the food prepared?

A: Our kitchen is located within Carolina Forest at 4006 Postal Way.  Our meals are cooked fresh by our Head Chef and kitchen team.  Currently due to the restrictions in place due to COVID-19 and keeping safety in mind, we have limited our deliveries to one time a week on Mondays currently.  Our clients receive two freshly prepared that morning hot meals and three frozen meals prepared during the week prior by our chef team.  Our clients are receiving the same quality of meals and service just in a different delivery routine at the moment.  We pray to return to daily services in the near future.

Q:  What types of Meals will you be delivering?

A:   Meals will consist of a meat, a starch, and a vegetable/fruit.  Bottled waters are also delivered to clients.  Currently due to the preparation schedule with COVID-19, we are unable to follow strict dietary restrictions and special diets.  All meals are now prepared with no added salt or added sugar with all clients in mind and allowing more clients to receive quality meals that they can enjoy and not worry about certain restrictions.

Q:  How often do you deliver?

A:  Current delivery is every Monday from 10:30 – 1:00pm.  Clients receive all 5 meals for the week during this delivery stop.  Our prayer is to return to the regular routine delivery of Monday through Friday during the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m at the earliest opportunity.

Q:  What are the eligibility requirements for receiving meals?

A: The requirements are as follows:

  • Homebound (unable to drive other than to the doctor, church, etc.)
  • Unable to prepare meals due to physical/emotional limitations
  • Live alone, or be alone during the day
  • Have no one to prepare meals for you during the day
  • No income or age restrictions apply
  • Cannot be receiving home-delivered meals from another agency

Q:  Why have you decided to stay privately funded?

A:    We stay privately funded because this is God’s ministry and as such, He provides the funding we need through private donations, business contributions, other non-profit fundraisers where donations are earmarked for Meals on Wheels.  God has provided the funds for us to operate for over 10 years!
